Here's one from my match angling side of things, it recently came up in a topic so i thought i'd throw it in here for future reference.
To fish with a feeder all you need is normal sea fishing gear however a slight rig adaption needs to be made.
Right to make the feeder itself, personally i prefer the kamasan black cap feeders used in coarse angling, these come in a range of sizes and only need minimal modification, however, they range in price from 40pence upto £1.00. All i do with these is remove the lead attatched to the side of the feeder, remove the swivel and finally remove the red powergum linking swivel to weight. Once you have nothing but a balck, removable top and a clear shell of the feeder its time ti drill
remove the black top and drill a small hole into the centre of the base of the feeder, this is directly opposite the hole in the black cap of the feeder. this allows you to make it inline and thread onto your line when making the rig.
Alternatively you can modify films cannisters of even kinder egg inserts(the plastic piece used to hold the toy). simply drill several holes in the side of the canister aswell as one in the lid and base.
now onto the rig. any match type rig works with this however there are very few ways to clip a rig down to stream line the bait as the feeder is bulky.
tie up any normal match rig, take a one hook flapper for example. now before you tie on the lead clip thread a crimp, bead, FEEDER, bead (another crimp is optional but personally i think its a waste) now tie the lead link on. now you have the feeder on all you need to do is top it from sliding around wildly, close the crimp to trap the feeder bewteen the beads and the lead link BUT leave about 1/2" gap between top of the feeder and the crimp so that you can open it up when required
(sorry if those instructions where a little messy, i couldn't explain very easily!)
now that you have your feeder rig its time to go fish, make up a groundbait/chum/whatever you want to call it. i like to blend up prawns and mix with a coarse angling groundbait such as swim stim. this gives a thick consistency that will stay inside the feeder for a while while in the water.
once you've filled the feeder make sure its closed and cast out as you would normally.
one furthur tip with this method is to try and hit the same spot each cast, also casting regularly helps alot as the constant scent and feed being introduced draws and holds fish in that area aslong as there is food there.
like i said previously my type up isn't great because describing this method is not easy without pictures however if you make it out into english you should get the idea.
this method has won me plenty money over time so try it for yourself, tight lines! |
