Blueys ?

Apologies for being a bit dim confused

I keep reading reference to "blueys" as bait - what are they ?

Hi, blueys (Pacific saury) are small oily fish, usually they come in packs of 2 or 3 and are about half size of macky. Most tackle shops have them, i personally havnt caught with them, so just use macky as usual. Cheers..Mick

PS, when i used them the fishing was dire all over, which might account for not catching with them.

Not the best bait to use from the shore, lug, mackerel, rag and squid are the firm favourites. Bluey possibly for boat fishing but mackerel in preference.

caught 90 % of my rays off the beach with them good for bass also,youll get mixed reviews on then but s few shops are selling out of then around kent

I know this is an old thread but I thought I would mention my experience.

I fished Huttoft beach around 20th Nov 2011 and used fresh lug with squid on one rig and Bluey fillet on the other.

Both rigs caught equally well with loads of Whiting. I had two good size Plaice one of which took a Bluey fillet and the biggest Whiting, around 16", took a Bluey head.

I'll certainly use it again. big grin

Glad to see that someone has had succees with them, personally I have never caught from the shore with them. Perhaps location may have played a part.

BLuey can be a great bait to use. I know quite a few people that use them over mackeral winking

Bluey is my favourite of the fish baits.
It stinks to high heaven. And catches loads of different species.
Its a prime ray bait.

its also known as god for cod so will be getting a shipment of blueys in soon lol
