Hi Folks,

For those of you how dont know me I'm Boansy (Andy Boans) and at present am studying a Msc Degree in Marine Biology @ Bangor Uni, also a mad keen shore angler with Bass Cod and the Smoothhounds being my main target species.

Last year I had a bummper spring and summer chasing the hounds from the usual hot marks around the Linc's and Holderness coast, with an observed 250 plus fish beached and returned between May and July (They hit the beaches early last year and left too soon). With this in mind and stories of last years run being very poor in Quantity but of a high Quality "Weight Class" I would like to put together a program for data collection and introduce a tagging detail to help with data returns which the Scottish Sea Angling Conservation Network (SSACN) are running annualy and also provide data to the UK SHARK TAGGING PROGRAMME run by the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton University.
I will be attempting to launch the first of these sessions, conditions depending, in early June and will be available for contact between Chaple Point and Sutton on Sea, most week days and hopefully every weekend for around 8 weeks (Dates to be confirmed)

Obviously this is a mammoth task for one man so if you are a keen Smoothhound angler and get out on these venues regulaly it would be good to meet up with you and get you recording/tagging too.....and hopefully by next year we can have a few teams of anglers recording.

Im sure you all know this will be of great benifit to the organisations who are screaming out for data and this will give anglers the chance to take part in the conservation of this species with little effort, great reward and hopefully maximum joy. Work Sucks !

Anyone interested can contact at the listings below and I hope to hear from a fair few so be patient with my reply.

If anyoue Knows "Sasha" from Mablethorpe can they please let me have his telephone number as last year he has some very good results and is in contack with many of the Smoothhound chasers.

Thanks for reading and please get involved

I will definitely be helping out Andy, I've also press ganged a few others into taking part and hope that as many members as possible will also join in. I used to know Sasha years ago and will try to get his number off someone else I know if he has it.
I would urge all members to try to take part, smoothounds are not a commercially fished species so this data wont go towards helping the trawlers to catch them and a great time was had by all last summer with some great fishing. big grin

Thats great news Carl, I should be around for 6 weeks or so, hopefully stopping with Daz so will be putting in the time again on the beaches daydreaming

The Data will be going to Southhamton/Plymouth and Bangor Uni's as well as to the Scotish shark tagging program and will not be made available to the public.....which is advisable with the spanish long liners still working (Not for long though.....so I believe) I would also advise everyone to vote for a Marine Protected areas and "No Take Zone" around the Lincolnshire coast (Will not include Angling takes) Anyone who has tagged a shark and notified me or any of the organisations involved will be emailed with the recapture details of there tagged fish which is only fair.

I am still waiting on funding for the program which will only cover the expense of the tagging equipment so keep your fingers crossed.

Should be back on shore around Easter Carl hopeing for a few Bass so hope to catch you then mate.

Cheers.

Andy big grin

Definitely be around during Easter Andy, I know a lot of people with itchy fingers at the moment, so it may get a little crowded.
