Hi all,
I have been fishing for about 10 years now and have always fishshed with fixed spools. I have a 15'' grauvell rod and am thinking about buying a multiplier to go with it. I just wondered if multiplier users could give me some advice. I need a cheap left handed model for beachcasting.
Cheers |

We've been here before, quite frankly. Ultimately there is nothing wrong with using either and both have their advantages.
One thing you will notice from comments made (and there is plenty of comments if you browse this forum) and that is that those who move on to a multiplier for general use will still revert back to the fixed spool when they see an advantage in doing so (myself included) or are open minded enough to realise that some prefer the fixed spool for various reasons. if i'm honest, I have no time for blanket comments about multipliers being useless and a waste and time and effort because if that were true there would not be so many in daily use.
If you are a lefty guitarfish87 you really are going to be limited as to the models of multiplier reel available (especially if you are looking to fish rough ground) and to be honest, one of the biggest problems is that people start with cheap rubbish - in the world of multis you really need to buy something decent to start with otherwise you are on a hiding to nothing! Multipliers without brakes are not an option!
If you are looking to fish cleanish ground then the obvious and most widely available lefty multi is the ABU 6501 in its various flavours and if you look around i would have thought you could maybe pick a good second hand one up for between 35 to 60 quid, depending on age. i'd also suggest some proper tuition and learn to cast it before you take it fishing ... that way you concentrate on learning to cast or fishing, because the two don't really mix. |
