There is quite a lot to learn regarding kayak fishing especially regarding safety and choice of kit (largely dictated by budget). There are many advantages to kayak fishing, the greatest for me being that in just a ten minute paddle there are more fish than you can shake a bendy stick at. As for cons...... I can't think of any.
There is an actve kayak fishing site called Sussex Kayak Fishing, see forum: http://lagachette.proboards.com/index.cgi?
Also I am trying to build up kayaking fishing connections through the Dymchurch Sea Angling Club: http://www.dymchurch-angling.proboards.com/
A recent post on another site showed the possible start of a kayak fishing section in the East Hastings sea angling association: http://www.ehsaa.org/Angling/index.php?option=com_content&view=frontpage&Itemid=1
The most active site is Anglers Afloat which has members from all parts of the country: http://anglersafloat.proboards.com/index.cgi?
I personally started Kayak fishing with a surf style sit on top, catching mackerel in the summer months in the Hythe Bay area (which I know well through years of dinghy and beach fishing), with only a wet suit, life jacket and mobile phone (in a waterproof pouch for communication). In the last year I have added a dry suit, VHF, GPS, fish finder, two more kayaks and many other items to my list of equipment.
Keep an eye out for meets, most people would be glad to let you try out their kayaks. |

I started with a wet suit, phone & Cag top and a standard Tarpon 120 with a cotty on the front. Now i have a Tarpon 120 angler, old shape, and am getting a new shape version after easter.
I dont know your area that well, apart from my folks live near Chichester & my aunt in Brighton, all i see are open beaches, but im sure there are fish all around there....and a yak will get u to them.
DONT buy a cheap yak, the Tarpons are GREAT for anglers, Ebay or friday Ad / Free ads etc are great for second hand bargains, usually around easter when most people are upgrading reaqdy for the summer.
ALWAYS fill inside of yak up with water to check for leaks, LEARN how to get back on when u fall in...u may do, u may not....it actualy quite easy when u know what u r doing.
BUY a life jacket, dont take too much kit out with you, Yaks are great for trolling and spinning, people do bait fish from them aswell - unless a sunny day i find that quite boring tbh....
anymore, message me. |
