Fished up River today East Cowes side between Reed Beds and Rowing Club with the Wife and Old Man, despite the temperature not getting above 1 degree all day.
Arrived 2.5hrs before high water and things looked promising with a good few bites coming in the first hour but no fish.
The Wife was first to land a fish, after a good few knocks and a slack line she reeled in this flatty weighing approx 1 1/4lb.
And then that was it until the last chuck of the day when the Old Man reeled in this flatty weighing approx 1 1/2lb that he didn't even know that he had on until a few yards from the beach.

Hi, nice little fish, ive no idea where that place is, are flatties the usual catch, or can you get other species. Oh and nice pics, the little blue n white pom poms look like essential equipment for cold days. Cheers..Mick |

It's on the River Medina, near Newport on the Isle of Wight.
Species that are normally caught in the river are Eels, Bass, Flounder & Plaice. |

Very heartening to see some flatties being caught...looks like you are right by where they have the IOW Festival at Seaclose and a little walk up from the Island Harbour, is that right?
I remember years ago catching a few nice flatties where the lock gates now are to the harbour, but am going back 20 years now.
Am an Islander but have recently returned after 20 + years away... its so fantastic to be back here, and wouldn't want to live anywhere else!
Best Wishes
