I had a k2 and because it has a very stiff action I was unable to put the power into it that itr needed. The rings are very brittle and tend to break easily if dropped.

The most common problem I face with clients who come to me for casting instruction is rods which are either -
too long (as in K2)
or too heavy/powerful.
(Or both!)
There's lots written about long rods making long casts possible from a basic technique.
Don't believe it ... most of the guys I meet are physically unable to generate the power needed to control a long rod properly.
Stick to an intermediate rod at 12 - 13' long ...
as in Daiwa STS range/Anyfishanywhere 6 and bait/Shimano Beastmaster ... all in the £120 - £160 range if you look around.
