This walled stretch looks over the River Humber and offers you the chance to fish in comfort from the back of your car.
It’s best fished two hours either side of a small-to-medium high tide, where whiting, flounders and the first of the season’s codling will be caught.
The beauty of this mark is that if it is blowing a gale on the coast, you will always manage to get a line in the water here as it is very sheltered.
Distance casting is normally not critical because a lot of the feeding fish can be located as little as 30 yards to 70 yards from the wall.
The ground is mainly made up of mud and a few stones, so tackle losses will be very minimal.
A standard beachcaster that has a multiplier or fixed-spool reel loaded with 18lb mainline and shockleader attached, will serve you very well.
Rigs are simple ¬ a two or three-hook flapper rig loaded with lugworms and tipped with a piece of squid is perfect. Size 1 Aberdeen hooks is a suitable choice.
If there are a lot of codling feeding in front of you then change your rig to a Pennell pulley and a larger bait mounted on larger hooks.
Use a 5oz or 6oz breakout sinker because the tide can push quite hard in its early stages, and this added grip will also help to hook fish as they try to move off with your bait.
Flounders can also be caught by using frozen black lug tipped off with a piece of mackerel or a bunch of harbour ragworms, also known as maddies.
Weekends can become crowded as match and freelance anglers also like to use this venue, so choosing a midweek tide may be a better option. |
