hi all.tried firing up my seagull outboard kindly given to me by my uncle.last used about 13 years.it fired up before he gave it to me .followed the manual to start it lots of compression but wont start .any ideas guys thanks |

Many years ago we had a clapped out 40+ that you had to hold the timing plate in the right place to keep it running. It used to give you a fair jolt up the arm if you didn`t get it right.
Hope yours is in better condition .  |

had the same problem remove the spark plug cover pull out the metal tag that the cap is srewed through clean with a bit of emery paper and reconnect secondly make sure it has petrol in it and turned on |

clean the carb clean the points and it will probably go if you have spark at the plug |
