I have just brought a 17 or my be 18 ft mayland boat for a bit of sea fishing the boat has all the gear on it radio/fishfinder etc it has a 20 hp yamaha outboaed the owner said it was a good sea boat.
on return to my mooring with it another boater told me its not a sea boat its onlly for fresh waterways but the chap who owned it used it for coastal waters and showed me loads of pictures so any advice please what is the difference between a sea going boat and a river boat
thanks barehooks

a 17 ft mayland is ok for sea fishing as long as you dont go more than a couple of miles of the coast as they were built as river and estuary boats, the difference between sea boats and river/ estuary boats is in the hull disign river /estuary boats tend to be very flat bottomed so they dont draw much water were as sea boats tend to have deep V hulls for stability in rough water hope this helps but if you google mayland boats you will get all the information on what the boat can or cant do
