Having just joined the forum I asked a question recently about where to fish in Barmouth and some advice. One reply off Keith (Rabbi2) welcomed me and said "one of the locals sure to reply". Having had no reply over the past weeks through the forum but plenty from the local shops and whoever was fishing when i have been there leads me to a story about when fly fishing i caught a 10lb rainbow trout and on registering it with the fishery my mate who had been fly fishing for some years said dont say what fly you caught it on, tell them another type. This brings me to the question of no one is telling whats at Barmouth. TOP SECRET. |

Hi,
I’ll reply but it will be an opinion rather than experience I’m afraid.
I’ve only fished out of Barmouth on a boat & that was a number of years ago. I have been there a number of times for a day out & I must say I’ve only seen ‘holiday’ anglers fishing from the shore. Obviously there must be good anglers there but they seem to give the busier times & places a miss?
I did go to Fairbourne & watched some anglers spinning & catching undersized bass, one after another but again that was some years ago.
To be honest a lot of anglers give the traditional seaside resorts a miss, certainly in the summer. I stood on a popular beach (not Barmouth) last year at night thinking I’d beaten the crowds when a group of kids came down, lit a fire, got load of beer down them, stripped off & a lot of then dived in!!! Crazy, but what they were smoking explained a lot????? They didn’t even offer me a beer!
You must have your reason for going to Mid Wales but from Wrexham wouldn’t the North Wales coast offer you the best option….. Not Rhyl obviously!
I would have thought someone could offer advice on the Barmouth area in general if not the town it’ self? As for “The secret”?????? I don’t think a secret exists, all the successful anglers I know (No, I’m not one of them!) catch through hard work, a keen eye, listening to advice…. & a little luck? Hope you find it though, best of luck & keep us informed. |

Yes thanks for the replies, initially i was just enquiring to see if anyone did have any local advice, but secondally "just joking".
North Wales coast is closer but i can stay at Barmouth at regular times so i just thought i would ask. Some local people have given advice when i have been there and also people on holiday have.
Ill keep up the hard work and listen to advice and the only luck i had last time was BAD LUCK as my bail arm broke and on casting snapped my line and sent my rattle plug guarenteed to catch (on the box) i bought from foxons in the reduced basket about 150yds skimming on top of the water.
SOME GUARANTEE ha ha. |
