Hi,
Yes it`s frustrating catching mackerel after the first few...
The Clyde used to be a productive place for all sorts of species a good few years ago, sadly most of the catches have been wiped by over zealous commercials, and of course industrial/human waste.
there are still other species to go for, and I believe it is getting better with each year as the slow recovery continues.

Skelmorie/largs areas are good over low tides for doggies
You should start seeing small codling real soon, especially if you are fishing in a weedy area and keep the bait pinned in the kelp (tackle losses, but use a rotten bottom on your weight).
i`ve caught pouting & small coalies from the pier at Port Glasgow this year, no keepers though.
Continuing to hunt Mullet at Bowling and you do get the odd sea trout pretty much anywhere in the clyde estuary (if you`r lucky).
Given the catches in Loch Fynne etc it`s only a matter of time before this filters throught o the rest of the system.

Keep trying, vary your baits and methods, bottom fish for cod (heavy baited leger), and try rockier places for pollack/coalies etc.
Dogfish over slightly dirty beds at low tide.

Quite a variance in the fishing styles and tactics.
