What you are about to read is true and happened in Great Yarmouth a few week back.
My brother and I were staying in B&B in a hotel opposite the pier, and I had got up early to go get a paper.
It was a beautiful morning, just right for fishing.
Suddenly there came rushing around the corner, a fire engine.
Blue lights flashing and siren basting out.
I watched it pull into a shopping zone about 200 yards from where I was standing.
I could see people looking up and the firecrew were also looking up.
Two minutes later I could hear another siren sounding in the distance and was amazed to see a huge fire tender ( the type with the turntable ladder ) come screeching around the courner and making it's way to the other fire engine.
Firemen began to cordon off the precinct and they extended huge stabilisors from the turtable tender.
I imagined that this was indeed a big urgent rescue and decided to go look.
Did I find bits of burnt body? People trapped in their hotel rooms ?
Nothing even remotely like this.....
It was a bloody seagull that had trapped it's wing in some overhead wires.
From the way it was attacking the fire crew who were attempting to free it, I figured it would have been better to have left it there.
So there you are......
Six firemen, two tenders, and God knows how much, just to rescue a seagull.
The crews did get an almighty cheer from some old biddies who were absolutely thrilled that the bird was saved.

I agree, they should have left it. Were they power lines overhead? If they were, what does roast seagull taste like?lol |

Is there no length to which councils will not go to beat their neighbours in the illumination stakes??!!! Bet we don't get to see electric seagulls in B&Q anytime soon! |

LOL the funny stuff that happens in Great Yarmouth... could have been good practice for when little timmy gets stuck up a lamp post!
Also in the strangeness of GY A silo exploded couple of weeks back bringing an early snow of semolina pudding to the town... |

Damn! You just can't get a good old biblical rain of fish when you need one. Semolina, no problem. Frogs, yep, got them too. Fish, not a chance buddy! |
