I have been fishing with a A ZIPLEX DYMIC hst with a 525 mag I have a medical condition that has got worse so Im now unable to lay line on the multi -
My question is - can I fit a fs reel seat on the rod and if so will I loose a lot of the zippy power or have any other problems ?
Or should I sell it and buy a premium FS rod for use in rough ground and if so what advice do forum members have -
thanks in advance Steve |

Not really a good idea as there are more rings on the mulitplier rod and the rings are far too small to dispense the line correctly while using a fs reel.
Basically the line will loop off the fixed spool reel which can cause crack offs
Thats why fs rods have larger and far few rings.
Cheers

I used to use a FOX Rockrunner with magnetix reel, casting distance was never that important up Arbroath rocks, and I felt the level wind on my reel lessened casting more than using a fixed spool reel on my multiplier rod.
I got rid of ther pigstick, and started using a FOX challenger multi rod, I use a penn sliding reel seat and if I`m using my ABU multi I use the reel low, and my fixed spool reel I use the reelseat high.
I have never had a crack off in 2 years of fishing like this, OK I don`t claim to cast 200yds plus, but I do manage around 150yds with either multi or fixed spool on the same multi rung rod.
Basically I don`t think it will make that much differance if you sare limited by a medical condition, unless you are trying to hit the 200yard mark when fishing.
If you feel you have to have matching tackle, why not send the rod away to have it re rung for a fixed spool?
All they would do is put bigger rings on the opposite way round, charge you £50 and you`d be sorted.
Other alternative is to use a multi with levelwind, but you`d be casting shorter than with a fixed spool on your multi rod....
Hope you still enjoy your fishing whatever way you go. |

I'd agree with all those comments too. If you don't want the expense of changing the rod, consider a level-line multiplier, or re-ring the rod for fixed-spool use. I've re-ringed several of my rods including a beachcaster, you can get the proper wrap, set of guides, epoxy etc from various places on-line and with a bit of care you should be able to do a good job. Trying to belt out a large sinker using a fixed-spool and a rod ringed for a multiplier is far from ideal. Mark. |
