Right there are a few edifferent ways.

You could get a small net and hunt around rock pools ets, sandy coves, around the low tide mark...bit labour intesive, but you could find other baits such as Peeler crab, butterfish & gobies at the same time. A Goby hooked through the top lip and float fished is a cracking bait in the right places.

As a boy we used to shrimp net shrimps & prawns from pushin a net along the sand in about 8 inches of water and seeing what happens.

A friend of mine uses a drop net, with some mackeral or similar fish in the centre and lowers that onto clean sand for about 10-15 mins at a time. The shrimps are attracted to the smell, etc. However - crabs are aswell, so be careful where u drop it.

If you are after the realy big King Prawns, no idea mate - ask a trawlerman.

Hi mate,

Have a look at this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Creel-Net-Trap-for-Live-Bait-prawn-shrimp-crayfish-crab_W0QQitemZ360175559250QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_SportsLeisure_Fishing_Reels_JN?hash=item53dc22e252&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

I posted something on here regarding mumbles pier (ie is it any good around there for a creel)

So basically with something like this you just drop them (you can use as many as you like) at the likely places ie, pier, harbour wall, rocky to sand area at low tide etc.

Thats the key.... this contraption will get them for you... its just finding out where the good places are and i am still doing that. If you have any joy i wouldnt mind being given a heads up.

Rgds

The Shrimp net shown on the web-link work well. I went last night, dropped the net down the harbour wall and had a dozen good Shrimp within five minutes. Shrimp should be around until early December and they will get bigger until they move-off. Shrimp move in swarms and the fish know it.
For example there is a local causeway and the only time the Bass will take Shrimp is when the water goes slack. The reason for this is that the Shrimp wait on the wall until the tide eases before walking through in swarms, easy pickings for the Bass who can't miss as long as it's mouth is open. Shrimp walk along the seabed and when spooked dart-off backwards, they cannot swim and are at the mercy of strong tides. You will always collect more in Estuaries, Harbours or sheltered bays. Hope that helps.
