Hi, i will be fishing alot at whitby pier over the next few weeks, i have fished it alot before, but never in the mackral season, any tips on catching them, would a float be good, and have there been any reports of mackral at whitby, or from the N/E coast?

I havnt heard of any mackerel being caught in double figures anywhere on the N/east coast, its looking like a repeat of last year. Good luck with it, and you might as well try a float, it cant hurt to give it a go as casting from the pier is so awkward. Cheers...Mick

hi devvo, yes you'll get them with a float, best method 28g spinner with a flutter spoon or coupe of feathers above, you don't want a rod more that 7ft as you'll be fishing from the lower deck, not sure of the tide times but try and pick an early morning h/w as it will be crazy on there this time of year if the mackerel are showing, been hit and miss this year tho.
