most tackle shops sell them at quite a good price depending if you want the one that sink flush with your boat or just screw into something but check out the local tackle shop |

'Best' would depend on a couple of factors. Are they to hold the rods whilst actualy fishing or as rod storage whilst underway etc. The type of rods to be held is also a significant facor. I tend to use uptide rods with the abbreviated 3 grips on the but section and the rel about 28" from the but. Used in the tubular plastic flush gunnel mounted holders they are held dangerously high if the base of the holder isn't removed prior to installation. The problem then is the cut end of the holder chews the hyperlon grips to bits when lifting the rod out. I sorted the problem by purchasing matching diameter plastic pipe with connectors and extended the tube. The tilt/swivel variety that slot into a keyway mounted either into the gunnels or the inside of the hull are not uptide rod friendly but ideal for standard boat rod handles.
Whats perfect for one person is often far from ideal for another.
One thing I would warn however, is to steer away from cheap stainless steel items. Experience has shown they turn brown rusty in little time. Quality ones don't but are very expensive. Type "stainless steve" into Google and look at his website. Not cheap, but very good quality. |
