The first setup that I have aquired is a Ron Thompson Hyper-Speed Salmon 15ft AFT 10/11 double handed coupled with a Shakespeare Beaulite reel with 2 spare spools. each spool loaded with new line, floating, medium and heavy respectively.
What I would like to know is would this setup be suitable for sea fishing and second the approx value.
The second setup is a Partidge Les Gordon Light Spey Model 1650,300 10ft Aftm 7/8 Ideal head weight 38 grms Single and double handed rod. Can you give me approx imate value on this one as well.

The second 7/8 weight outfit is the one best suited to sea fishing Keith. I use a similar single handed outfit for Bass, Mullet and Mackeral, in conjunction with a weight forward fast sink line from the shore and small boat. Mackeral in particular provide some very exciting fishing on such light outfits, a bit like hooking a rocket!!
Value wise, you are in what can only be referred to as an elitist section of angling when Salmon fishing is the subject. Hence the perception of label is everything where value and resale is questioned. Hardy, Sage etc are sought and lesser makes totally ignored. |

Hi rabbi,
Not sure on the value side of things here but i'd echo tomcats response.
7/8 weight is fine for this country.
Cheers

The salmon rod would be useful for fishing in or near the estuary of a river. It will allow a longer cast and you would be able to mend the line better. As to their value, the salmon rod and reel including the lines about £140, but I am no expert.
The second one as said before good for single handed fishing , value about £110.
Hope this helps. |
