There is not much you can do to avoid dogs im afraid.

One way would be to use a float rig with worm or crab for wrasse pollack mackerel and bass or you could spin with jellyworms or frozen sandeel.Great sport on light tackle.

I havent caught many dogs on lugworm so you could try that as a bait but it does reduce the species you are likely to catch and crabs make short work of any worm bait.

we spent the whole day on saterday behind the convend first me and two other m8s was spinnin for pollock and mackreal for about to hours an not even a bite. so we went to the bottom an serously we must of took up between us 20 dog fish. it just aint rite.lol

it used 2 b if you caught a doggie u were over the moon but now im sick of looking at them.lol

i think ill try diffrent bait the nxt time see wat happins.

if the dogs are on the feed theres not a lot you can do about it. i was out last week with rag, razor and lug and they were taking everything. 2 secs after it was in the water and the rod would start bouncing. i heard they dont really take rag, but they did that night. i had at least 15 and they were doin my head in but at least its a fish. better than nothin.

use jellies shads greenfish and spin for pollack and mackeral and with other rod either float fish with rag/limpets or fish with a paternoster rig with crab rag squid cocktails. doggies are problem in the morning and late evening. I fish the ledges and can produce some good pollack but torr head produces double figured pollack spinning.
