Take a fork with you and as you walk look for" squarish" keyhole shapes in the sand. there will be no sandwhirl near them. When you find them dig as quickly as you can and throw the lose sand to one side checking it for the clam.
When you are digging you will probably see little squirts of water coming up near you, mark these in your mind as they are the burrows of other clams. As you are walking along if you stick the fork in the sand you may see some of these squirts and that will give their position away.
If you find a clam still in the sand grasp it and put constant light pressure on it until it comes away. Dont be tempted to play tug of war with it as it will break.
We only get razors up here at low tide on big tides so start looking for them then, chances are you are looking too far up the beach.
Im going diggin now if I can find some I will photo them and post them tomorrow.
Good Luck

the tides might not be low enough for it to be worthwhile looking for razors. you might get a few but not many. keep an eye on the tide book for a very low tide and try then. when you see the hole from the razor youll know the difference straight away from a lug hole.
just checked the book and it might be worthwhile checking on wed, thu and friday. low water of .5, .4, .5 and .6 on saturday. this is for cork tho. |
