i'd planned a pleasant evening out on the beach fishing hurst shingle bank over highwater and the ebb hopeing for maybe a bream, but anything would do.
and , for a change, Ashley , my eldest wanted to tag along .
glad of his company really til he mentioned that his girlfriend would be with him.
ok, no probs as long as they understands we'll be miles from a sh*te house or anyother utility. that wern't a problem the pair on ems used to camping out.
all tickety boo so far till ash tells me she has a meeting and we cant go till about 8pm ( 4 hours late, tide missed at hurst and plans all going t*ts up )

to keep everyone happy venue was moved to chesil cove, if it looked ok,
arrived 9pm, weather -light showers, winds westerly force 3-4, rougher than i'd have liked, with the tide ebbing , won't be high water till 2 or 3am, just b4 dawn should be good but a bit too rough.

after building the bivvy and settingup my 2 rods i turned back to find ash and g/f had set up camp in my bivvy compleate wi pillows n blankets
no bloody room for me.
anyway b4 i could yell budge over my rod got pulled over & a short fight found me dragging ashley out to play david bailey with the camera.

Image

just a wee bass , need a bigger one

some time later the rod was over again & i was into something big , i could gain line but as i got it near the beach it would set off on a short run , i'd gain some more then it would run again,
there seemed to be a pattern forming here & when i'd finally fought it into the surf my lamp showed i'd hooked a fine pallet fish quite common here when any boat looses the damn things over the side along with just about anything else in the way of flotsam/jetsam in lyme bay, it all ends up here in a westerlie.
i asked ashley 4 help but he was battleing the 20 stone lump o weed fish on the 2nd rod while nutty ( natasha ) had a simalar prob on the 3rd.
all sorted out eventually & the largest of the weed rafts headed off left on the riseing tide.
the rest of the night was rather (boring) uneventful, with me catching a micro pout & ashley claiming a bootlace eel, despite me baiting up/casting/retrieveing/unhooking and retieing another rig on the rod, well it was 'his' rod so i gues he can claim it.

baits were squid and mackerel.
rigs were - 2 hooks flappo ,/ running ledger/ up n over, and several others . we lost a few to the wed rafts and more to the weed bed just offshore.

at dusk n dawn i chucked some feathers about 4 mackerel/pollock, & tried a dexter for a gar but nothing doing.
just a bit too choppy i recon.
