im fishing fowey docks in cornwall and im getting nailed by the crabs.
im thinking about trying out floating beads to lift my bait off the sea bed.
im just wandering if anyone else uses these beads?
are they any good,or a waste of money?
plus,i use quite big baits, usually a large sandeel on a pennel with most of squid lashed to it,how many beads would i need to put on my hooklengh to float this?
i only ever use the pulley rig,is this rig ok to use with floating beads?
thanks for any help

i went to the tackle shop afterwork yesterday and brought a few packets of floating beads.
not cheap,
£2 for 12 at 13mm
£2 for 6 at 18mm
i use big baits for bass,it took 2-18mm beads and 1-13mm bead to float a large sandeel with a half squid rap. and 2-18mm beads to float 3 rag with a squid tip.
they did work, not one bait got done by the crabs, but now im worried about presentation.
im fishing where theres a real strong tidal pull,im worried my baits are flapping about violently a foot or two above the bottom.
what do you think?
cheers

A moving bait is more likely to atract fish than a stationary bait in my opinion.

BIG TROUBLE, it's hard but you can,t beat the crabs.............dump the beads..........bite the bullet........change the bait more often ........catch more fish !!!!!!!. Respect to you though you are using your imagination trying to solve the issue but at the end of the day the beads are a carp inovation suited to a "still water" senario. That's the bottom line |

I remember fishing a match once where it was impossible to keep a bait on your hook for more than a few seconds I decided to use a clear ball float I had to bring the trace off the bottom
It worked very well and I managed to catch a few Pout when no one else was catching
cheers

as fish don't have access to fashion gurus you may find that bits of plastic foam cut to size, or good old-fashioned cork, will work just fine; tie the float 4 to 6 inches from the bait and experiment with snood lengths depending on the current. |
