Thinking about doing some touring kayaking around the South West with the GF (we love camping etc) obviously be good to take a rod along but which one. My 12ft beach caster far too big to be practical. Any ideas?
Cheers in advance

OK, this depends on wether you intend to fish from the kayak, or when u get somewhere. I personally would consider both options, however, trolling while on the move a great way to catch mackeral, bass & pollack.

I also assume that you may also camp & therefore want to fish near to wherever that is.

From the Kayak, and spinning outfit, 6-9feet will be fine, i use an 8ft 3 piece spinning rod from mine, fixed spool reel, loaded with 20LB braid. I also use the same to spin from the shore, it will take a 3 hook mackeral jig, plugs & also over clean sand / light surf, i use this from the beach when i go off touring.

Take some jelly lures (eels, 6'' redgills in white, black, orange, spinners (wedges & toby's), a few shallow diving rapala's (husky jerks in white or mackeral colours), a mackeral rig on a hand line is an idea, and the assorted swivels, small weights etc.

One great piece of advice - is dont weigh yourself down with a load of kit to fish with.

Cheers for the reply,
Yes we intend to camp & fish from shore and kayak/canoe. Been doing a bit of research & the Anglers Afloat site led me to look at various Fladen rods which fit the bill. Also found tacklebargains.co.uk who have plenty of options of the above and hand lines for trolling.
We're looking at the Perception Vista Delux as it looks like a good touring option with plenty of space.
Just gotta get the funds together now!
