After much deliberation I decided to join “bazza byrom” (aka Gareth) and his pals for the planned trip to Chapel St Leonards.
All week I was undecided but with the change of Weather Thursday and with a good forecast for Friday and Saturday I bit the bullet and gave it a go.
Armed with Peelers, Squid, Mackerel, Bluey & Lug we set off and arrived in plenty of time to fish the last 3 hours of the flood, we would have got there sooner but we were following Gareth’s mates who wanted to go the scenic route – lmao.
Got parked up and jumped out the van only to find that the wind was blowing from the SE (that was not forecast) and the sea was not in a great state but there were a good dozen anglers on the beach and we were here for a long session so the wind/forecast could change to suit us.
Gareth and I fished form 1800hrs Fri 12th – 0900hrs Saturday 13th before packing up and setting off for the 70 mile trip home.
Having now been up for over 36 hours I can not remember when and what times the fish were caught, I say fish between 5 of us we had, Gareth 1 x Flounder, Steve or Lee 1 x Flounder and me 1 x Flounder and 1 x Silver Eel.
Gareth’s Flounder was caught on Peeler Crab using a Pennell Pulley rig and mine was caught using a cocktail of Peeler Crab and Lug on an Up and Over rig that was given to me by “beatlesfab4” (aka Tony) yesterday morning, sorry Tony but there are no hooks left on that rig now lol.
My Eel was caught on a Pennell Pulley rig baited with Peeler Crab.
None of the fish were caught beyond 70 yards; the wind was putting a stop to any distance.
We grabbed a break from the fishing over the slack water period (approx 0200hrs) and when we got back into the fishing the wind had died down, settling the sea down a bit.
By the time the sun was rising the wind had moved around to a SW and the sea was almost perfect by the time we packed up at 0900hrs.
The crabs had a feast over the 15hrs we fished, and only towards high water this morning crab baits were coming back untouched, I bet the fish had moved in just as we were packing up, typical!
Parking and access to the beach really simple and a 24hr toilet block next to the Car Park makes this a really user friendly location to fish, just hope next time I go I catch my double figure hound!
Gareth thinking that he had a bite!
Our accommodation!
The star of the session!
Location!
Tight lines ><(((((((*> |
