Hi i make mine with a 3ft trace, around 10 to 12 inch snoods set equally apart, and size 1/0 hooks, but you will find many will differ from this, so then the choice will be yours. Cheers..Mick

instead of a 2 hook flapper, try a 1 up 1 down rig mate, rig body 4ft, top snood 3ft, then place your bottom snood approx 4" above ya sinker and make that about 2 1/2 to 3 foot long, i use 20 lb amnesia for the rig body and 12 lb amnesia for the snoods

As said by Mick, everyone has there own personal preference on snood lengths, if i was using the same rig over rough ground it would be

3ft rig body and 2 snoods approx 18" long attached

I use 40lb clear Amnesia for main rig body and 20lb clear Amnesia for hook snoods along with Size 2 Sakuma 540 Manta hooks along with 6 x 5mm beads on each snood.

My flapper rigs are all 3 hook and have several tied at different lengths but have found one in particular that works extremely well with a certain colour combination of beads.

I gave up on flappers 3 years ago - fed up with too many tangles. I now do clip downs instead - it doesn't take much to put a couple of bait clips in place and your bait will stay put if you are doing power casting. Also like Sniper I use 20lb Amnesia snoods - not because I am expecting bigger fish but because the thicker line is less likely to tangle. From the anti-tangle viewpoint, try using those little nylon booms to link your snoods to the main body; they also help reduce tangling in my experience.

Hi Eccles, I used those nylon booms once but chucked them, the first time they came under strain the snood cut through it like a knife through butter. If i were to use booms again it would be the wire type. But like you I prefer to use a clip down, to my way of thinking if you cant catch with one hook 2 or 3 isnt going to help. plus flappers are only any use if your trying for a double etc with flatties or macky. Well its only my opinion, and its each to their own, thats what makes fishing interesting, big grin Cheers...Mick

Ah well mate there is some cheap stuff about which is not always as good as it looks. Good example is those zip sliders which I use for running leger rigs:- I once bought some cheapy versions and didn't realise I had made a mistake until a couple of them had cracked off under load. I have never had your problem using the genuine booms in the last three years so maybe you bought some which were a poor batch or not very gen.
Another lesson I learned a while back is that some less reputable tackle shops sell Aberdeen hooks which straighten when a decent fish takes hold.
I now stick to my local tackle shop or reputable ebay traders - not always the cheapest but you don't get inferior rubbish which lets you down at critical moments.

Never mind, perhaps you will one day - try fishing a three or four knot current.
