Dunwich, for easy access and a chance of a big fish. Sometimes cod are caught at 30 yards, I know I've done it.

Concrete,
you say Dunwich is a favourite spot- is it okay to fish just down from the car park at Dunwich Heath- its a national Trust Nature Reserve property and have never seen anyone fishing there on my winter walks along the beach so I was a bit worried that fishing might not be allowed
Cheers

As far as ease of access and results that I have had there, personally I would say Holland on Sea... |

From our limited experience, Holland or Clacton seem to do it but I'm hopeful that and Orford trip will confirm what everyone's been saying about it.
Of places not to fish, (I know Daiwa will probably argue about this) I'd say Shoebury East beach is about the worst. Never even had a tickle there. Not a thing. Nada. Zip. Bupkis. Zilch. |

I know it is not an east coast venue, but as Deal (Kent) was in the list, my favourite place to fish in this area is 'The Warren' Folkestone. There is a great campsite there (no caravans) right next to the beach and the fishing particularly at night is very good, espescially after a strong onshore blow has subsided.
A short walk from the campsite, there are some prolific marks; large patches of clean sand that are peppered with huge individual rocks. The variety of different species to be encountered there is quite amazing; plaice, bass, and dogs in summer, and whiting, codling and good cod in winter. A sixty yard cast puts you among the fish. Fish last three hours of flood and first two of ebb.
