Hi mate although its not the norm but I do it, as I use a carp rod that is rated up to 4oz but I only use a 3oz weight. I use this for most of my flattie bashing. Just remember to give it a good wipe down and remove all the salt from it.

exactly what rabbi2 said, a carp rod will do fine, all depending on what you aim to catch, when ever i go after mullet, i always use a match rod. however, if fishing from a beach, a carp, pike, barbel rod will do fine
