Hi guys! Can anybody help? Been fishing the beach at Holmpton for the last couple of weeks but blanked every time. I followed your advice about baits and rigs etc, but all i've had are a few thieving crabs nicking my bait! If anyone is having better luck in my area, i would be very grateful for any input. Thanks....Hullboy |

Hi HB, I dont know where Holmpton is, but i suspect its somewhere near hull, If this is the case, you would do better to put this on the N/East coast or East coast forums, hull is that grey area between 2 coasts and hard to decide which it should be on, but as far as i know its under East coast, though the N/east lads would be the ones to ask. Cheers...Mick |

Hi Hullboy. I fished Holmton last Saturday for the first time and caught 2 dinner plate sized turbot. Lost a really big un too! (always the one that got away!) It seems to be a really fickle place to fish. There were about 10 anglers on the beach and i didn't see anyone else catch anything. I was surprised as i had read some really great reports on it and we had gone to target smooth hounds and rays. We had all sorts of baits lug, mackerel, squid, prawns, sprats, and muscles but it was the classic lug/squid/mackerel cocktail that caught me the fish! Lots of guys there were using peeler and blanking but peeler is usually a killer bait. The one thing i do know is you need a rig that has a long flowing trace that presents your bait well bellow your weight. I made some brilliant s.r.t spring rigs where the long trace is slung up the rig body, around the spring and then back down the rig body to clip onto an impact shield. You can cast these streemline rigs really far and using a pennel hook combo you can use a huge bait! Have a look in some old sea angler magazines for diagrams of these riggs. |
