Hoping to drown some worms at St Abbs or Coldingham this weekend ( sat evening ) --- St Abbs Harbour is probably the safest bet, but saw a report on Coldingham rocks on the right hand side of the bay which was encouraging --- any body any info on this area --- baring in mind I'm an old geezer with a set of knackered knees --- are they fairly accessable or do you need to be related to a mountain goat ? --- is it a low water mark ? ( don't fancy having to get rescued by the coastgaurd in the dark )
Any info on fishing either would be helpful
Cheers

Hi LLoydy,
Access to the mark on the right of Coldingham beach is not too bad but it is a bit of a hike down the hill and across the beach before you clamber over the rocks. I would be more concerned about the big seas you get washing over the rocks particularly after the easterlies we have had this week. I have been soaked standing 20yrds back from the rock edges when freak waves appear. Reckon this is why the surfers congregrate in the bay.
It may be a bit early but Burnmouth harbour, at the pier end up the steps where the wee white tower is, will be a safer and easier mark to access. Fish it on a rising tide and cast out into the channel. It can be a tackle graveyard so use a rotten bottom and shortish snoods. Rag,lug and shellfish will attract the wrasse, saithe and codling if they are around. The fish around here are not particularly big but it has two advantages. You will be safe and you dont have to pay for the parking like you do at St Abbs.
I may give it a try myself this weekend.

I fished St. Abbs ac ouple of times last year in spring, few rockling and a couple of weeish pollack...
Biggest catch was a diver who swam into my line!!!
Had the nerve to blame me when I`d had my line out for 20 minutes or so...
Coldingham off the rocks is good, but you can take flatties of the shore without going over the rocks...
Best of luck... |

Thanks for info guys --- think I'll give the rocks a miss then --- could have a look at Burnmouth before I decide -- have to go past Burnmouth to get to St Abbs anyway. Although if the weather forcast is accurate, I might well stay in doors with a film and a few cans of beer
Regards
