Just getting into the idea of sea fishing and have been hoovering up as much information as possible (net, magazines, books).
Found out all about leaders and their importance and leader knots, but what I haven't found is what is used at the other end to connect your rig.
I'm assuming it is some sort of clip (or maybe swivel). Is this correct? If so, what sort is best? What sort of strength do they need to be bearing in mind all the issues of strength of leader line etc.
Apologies for the rather dull question!

Thanks for that. Thought there may be a breaking strain issue due to the whole casting / impact stress thing but obviously not!
Cheers

For connecting your rig to your leader, incorporate a size 4 swivel (strength-wise 80lbs) at the end of your rig. A Mustad connector-swivel is ideal for this purpose. For quick attachment, instead of tying the leader directly to the swivel, you could use a Mustad rig-clip to attach the leader to the rig by tying the rig-clip directly to your leader (it is small enough to fit through the rings on most rods, especially a rod designed for a fixed-spool reel) Then it is only a simple matter of cliiping the rig-clip to the swivel.

Sound advice there.
Leaders are a critical part of your set up and getting the right tackle to use them is equally as important. There is an immense strain on knots and terminal tackle when you cast so be sure that any links, swivels and knots can handle the task.Safety is paramount and getting it wrong can be a dangerous thing!Use superglue to bond leader knots and always carry spare leader line in the event of a snap off (and you WILL experience snap offs ) |
