Had a wee session a couple of miles south of Arrochar, nice deep water, a few bites (doggies?) but landed 0 apart from loads of puffball style jellieish sacs...
Nice day out though as weather was fairly nice.
Hoping to head over to Loch Fynne end of the month, noticed a couple of other posts re damage to Inverary pier etc..
Is pier totally off limits?
Any other piers in that area (taking the kids this time)that are easily accesible?
What`s the best bait over there just now?
Used Rags at the weekend with little success.. |

The pier at Inverary is shut but there are other marks in the loch. Furnace is the best known but it can be a tacle graveyard. One thing i have learned is that land marks can give you a good idea what the ground is like under the water. Look out for skeers going into the sea or steep hills down to the lochside and that gives an indication of what stuctures, like reefs, and the depth of the water. Pollack and codling usually hunt around the reefs as do conger. Thornies prefer banks where they cn lie in wait for there prey to be swept down to them. Dogs seem to like anywwhere there is a food supply.
With regard to bait its hard to beat a leadhead and rag for pollack though jellies and silver toby's can be good to. As a rule dawn or dusk on a rising tide is the best time for pollack though you can catch them at any time. Lug, rag, squid, mack's, peeler and mussel will all take codling, try different coktails to see what the fish prefer . In the sea lochs I would always have mussel as they are abundant there. Frozen sandeel and rag cocktail for the dogs and rays. Mackerel for the conger the fresher the better and Loch Fyne will be teeming with them next month.
Some of the best fishing I have enjoyed has been off the beaten track. Either by travelling light for some pollack fishing or stopping the car at a likely looking mark. These marks being lightly fished can throw up bigger fish.

Thanx for that Mac.
Great advice for someone not used to the area.
Will let you know how I get on at the end of the month.
