poppers ,as far as i know, only ever float and skim the water when retrieved. the lures action on the water imitates a distressed fish and by ficking your rod will dart about and break the surface of the water which will then tempt an attack from a predator such as a bass or pike. i think the name popper comes from the fact that it pops up from the surface creating an inticing splash when retrieved. hope this helps.

there are hundreds of plugs on the market that dive to different depths and produce different actions. the best i find are the floating shallow divers. these will dive a couple of feet and will net you large mackerel, pollack and bass. oh and never use weights. best makes i find are: Rapala, Maria chase, Yo zuri and Luckycraft. checkout www.monstertackle.co.uk for great prices and delivery speed.
