Croyde fishing advice please

Im hoping someone can could give me some advice , im going on my well deserved hols at the end of May to Croyde ,well Ruda to be precise . Im staying very close to the beach , so should be able to sneak out without the wife and kids noticing winking

any descent marks close by....any help would be great , cheers Benob1

never fished there but been there a few times, your better of fishing baggy point about 30min walk from ruda, last months sea angler or the one before there was a guy in it who caught a 35lb tope off baggy point and going back a few years ago a 30lb conger came off there but fish it at day as its a rock mark and can be very dangerous there so be carefull mate.

check in the south west forum mate there was a post about ilfracombe in there last week bud there are plenty of good marks around there i had my first ever bass at the other end of the beach to woolacombe cant remember what its called its been a long time since i went to north devon i just walked alont the rocks and cast a float set up behind the breakers.

cheers all , looks like i'd better uprate my rods and line ,not sure what the wife would say when i whack a 30lb tope on the barbie....cheers again.

a bit early in the year for tope as theres not many mackerel inshore yet but theres a chance of you getting one, i would use a makerel strip or flapper on a 50lb wire hook length with a 5/0 hook, if your after one. that setup would aslo work for conger but again a bit early in the year but theres always a chance.

Sounds great , have not fished that way since i was a teenager [distant memories],when i lived near Redruth for a while fishing and shooting [sorry i'm going all misty eyed]catching doggies ,conger and wrasse from a place called Lamorna Cove and shooting rabbits.......argh them were the days ...

Try the Coombe Martin Sea Sangling Club website - www.cmsac.co.uk. They have a booklet thats downloadable that gives info on that stretch of the coast.

Woolacome sands and Croyde Bay are both fantastic storm/surf beaches for Bass ......fish them at sun rise with peeler or live sand eel in, or if you can, just over the surf but always bait up a second rod and fish it at your feet on a flood tide.....You can see Bass at your feet in 2 ft of water and they are a great sight to see...... suprise

They get kinda busy with surfers and holiday makers so try to fish first and last light when its not so busy.......both beaches are really worth the effort but as for where on any beach ?????......take a walk down low water and have a good look at the ground ....any promonant feature is worth a cast to but hey just get in the surf and enjoy it ......its a great way to fish

3ft pully pennel.....2/0 hooks.......15/20 lbs snoods.....3/4oz lead.....I like to use just a straight bomb cos it can roll around and find a feature for you.........great fun big grin

Thanks for all the advice chaps but i have now returned from Croyde,,,,minus several rigs, assorted spinners ,feathers but i do have one broken, reel snapped rod and zero fish....all my fault ...but what a fantastic place ,very frustrating as i was there with my young family and could not get away to fish....but the place was beutiful in the sunshine..
