Decded to not go to far this wkend and wanted a bash at the wall just to see if there were any springers in the Humber so took the comfy option and headed for the wall sat afternooon.

They are building up the sea defences and there are gates across both access points to the wall but the security guard told me move them out the way, drive through but make sure I put them back ...seemed fair enough.

Got to Bay 28 about 6 in the aft
Tide topped at about 7 15 / 6.8 meters
Wind was moderate S/W turnig SS/E freshening
Sea state moderate....lovely colour

As the tide pulled out had my first indication ...proped cod bite but nothing then at about 7.45 hooked and landed my first cod @ 3 and a half lbs on peeler...first chuck with peeler and only out about 30 yards close to the cages. Lost one next ckuck and lost another close ....snagged up to cages but there seemed to be some better fish following along that feature .

Nothing for an hour close so belted one with just lug 130 yards as the darkness came and had 2 smaller coddling in two chucks as the tide started to ease off a little...held with 6 oz and long slack line using a long , sliding flowing trace, pully style....my fav rig for up tiding.

Nothing for the next few hours so got my head down and waited for flood........up at 3 and as the tide came over the cages had a good cod on but lost it at the cages ......my fault....forgot they were expossed.

Nothing for rest of flood and was looking forward to the ebb which raced out fast 7oz grapple.to hold and put on 6 ft flowing trace to be sure my bait was down and again fished as close to the cages as I dare.

5 coddling on the ebb 3 in close and 2 out long all to peeler and not a touch on lug...all returned all below 2 lbs

Decided to stay for the evening flood and leave 2 hour after high wind had changed and was gusting up river on the flood pushing far to hard to hold so was expecting a nice run off which never happened...the river ran off very slow and hardly a bend in the tip even at 130/140/150.....think the moon wa holding it back ...it was so wiered to see all that water push in and just east back out so slow......first for me

Anyway another 2 codlling @ 2lbs , Bass @ ! and a half and a dab @ 1 and a half ....kept the dab ...my mate loves em.

So still a few fish about but was hopping for a nice springer, still 3 and half lbs is not a bad fish from the wall and I lost 2 a little bigger .....happy with that and I now have complete faith in my rig which not only give me alot of confidence but out fishes the others in bad conditions.

Might even have another chuck this evening .....got some bait left...no peeler though

If anyone fances a chuck next wkend let me know ....have herd a lad say that there were some springers coming off a mark neer chaple but dont know how true it is.....if anyone has any info please let me know......would love to get out there one last time for the cod.

Cheers

Andy

Thanks Craig and Rick,

Fished at Bay 27 on the Grimsby Bank Wall...Take the M180 to Grimsby and come off at The Stallingbrough turn off ..though 2 roundabouts and take the left hand exit on the third .....! mile take a left towards factory/ chamicalthen next left before factory/ chemical plant on to the track and follow it round then you will see the wall and the bays are nunbered

They are working on the wall at mo and for the next 6 months so if you wana fish go at week end or after 5 weekdays ...you will have to move the gate and make sure you put it back....you cant fish on nthe right hand side at the moment.
There is a security guard comes round but if you are friendly and decent he will be happy to let you fish....you have to leave by 0830 week day mornings before the work men get there.....fished last night see report

Hope thats helpfull Rick,

Andy

Oh yeah Rick,

Springers are Spring run cod.......Cod are migratory and you have wave after wave of cod 3/6 lbs class fish this and last year from Sept through to Feb ...then there is a bit of a lull in the shoals untill the springers arrive from March ......there are not as many fish in the spring run but they do tend to be leaner and slightly bigger in class and they are ravenus.....they are hunting for crab but will nail most baits.......you get great bites from springers but at the end of the day they are just hungry cod that run inshore in the spring.

Adlebrugh still had spring cod in June last year so if you want some cod action thats the place to be

Hope this helps Rick
