sorry bud. i was away the last few days and didnt have access to the net.
youghal strand is meant to be good but ive never fished it.
ive heard of some good Bass bein caught lately in the youghal area but you'd probably need a local to show you where.
did you have any luck?? |

Hi Mann
It was a really good fish, big slack line bite then he ran for the shore with me winding like a demon to keep in contact. It was only when he saw me he started making runs. I had to knock the reel into freespool as I didnt have the drag set.
Ive had six bass in daylight in the last two weeks from this mark. It seems to fish best with a bit of colour in the water. All of them have been on big lug baits with nothing else working. My mate had a 41cm flounder there aswell.
I read youve been doing well on the ray, Ive only had one so far, but I havent been down that neck of the woods for a few weeks. Im going to B.O.R tomorrow for high to see if any wrasse have come in yet, then Im heading near Kilkee for rays on the low on my way home.
Good luck

no i havent bait digger, thanks for reminding me
ive come close a few times tho. i had one on the other night just at dusk, i could see him about 15 yards out but the little bugger got off. it was only about 2lbs but i was still sick all the way home.
my friend had 2 a few weeks ago and he was fishing 10 yards away from me. i was re baiting both times he had them.
im fairly confident of getting one before the ban kicks in tho. my shifts in work are working well with the tides and i have a week off at the start of may so fingers crossed. |

Well done Redmouse, perseverance always pays off
You have your thinking wrong: we are not coming up to a ban, we are coming up to a period of time that allows you to gather knowledge on different marks, features on marks you may already know, areas to gather better quality bait, all without being blinded by the lust to catch bass. Look on it as a time of contemplation.(or go off and hunt rays like I do)
You know now you have caught one you will become addicted and cursed to haunt the shores like so many other bedraggled specters looking for more fish, bigger fish, you will develope the thousand yard stare constantly scaning the water for a boil behind joey mackerel or a flash of silver sything through a shoal of sandeel, you will live by the tide always knowing if its in or out, what marks would fish best at what time. Your mind will belong to the waves just hoping for the occasional fix when your rod buckles over and your line goes slack or strips from the reel.
welcome to the brotherhood |

And so the student becomes the master.
Cracking fish, well done.It looks quite lean as if it has spawned already but still a great fish. How big would it be in top condition?
There is nothing more I can tell you so Im off to chase Sharks from the shore.
You leave those bass alone for a month. |

yeah, the fish looked fairly spent but it was still big enough for me. the one i had a few nights earlier was a little smaller(73/67) but was a nice bit fatter. the only pics i have of that one are from my phone and hard to make out as the camera went dead when i got the first of the night. i had 5 that night, all 43-46cms except the one that was 67.
i bought a scales yesterday online so should have it mon or tue, then getting it certified on wednesday so im ready for a speciman Bass hunt when the ban is over. |
