Hi All,
I'm new to the forum though I've Ive been fishing for years.
I tried Purfleet yesterday morning for the first time (behind the pub near the housing estate where the A1090 makes a sharp turn north) without a single bite. Only had mackerel on me though. I thought I'd give the Thames a try as others have reported decent catches nearby.
The water was quite deep, even 3 hours after the top of the tide and I was rather surprised at not finding anyone else there fishing.
Anyone else here fish that spot or others nearby?, like the fortress in Tilbury?
Any info's appreciated as I'm not from the area (I'm in West London).
Cheers,
Tony. |

purfleet sounds a little too far upriver for me.
tilbury sea wall by the fort can be good, better if you fancy the long walk to the power station, but for me i'd rather stay further down river, stanford, canvey or the southend beaches |

If salt water flows there fish will follow. Next time try using ragworm or peeler crab for bait and see if your results improve. We catch bass eels and flounders a long way up our estuaries.

Yes, I'm sure worm would help. Only thing is there were no tackle shops open on Sunday and I live too far to pick stuff up during the week. But I also think that its important to be able to reach the realy deep-water channel in the middle of the flow - it seemed too far for me to reach from that point.
Any recommendations on other places to try in the area would be appreciated (I'll also have a go at Canvey Island when the codling start showing).
Cheers,
Tony.
PS. BTW, any idea what all those explosion sounds were in the distance?, is there a shooting range nearby? |

Are they still firing large things at Shoebury Ness? If the wind is in the right direction the sound travels for miles.
