report
the Daggie danglers went to Clacton today started fishing 0900 - 1400 i put out two rods at the corner by the gate and two other danglers to my left. we got 10 whiting, 2 doggies, 3 pouting, and 1 weaver fish. we got the bait from Dean's lug very small and the rag needed a kick start. all the fish were caught on a mixed hook at about 30 yds out we all had lots of good bites all in all we enjoyed the day.

now the info
spoke to the guy who took the money about the pier closing down and asked which one clacton or walton at which he said he will find out at about midday another guy came around checking the tickets and again we asked to which he replyed as follows
we have just taken over the pier (clacton) and have no wish to close it to fishing in fact we are planing to start night fishing on it once a few H.S problems have been sorted out we are looking at a fee of £100 a year to join, the guy told us he is part of the management who now own the pier.
I fill this is a bit strong a price to pay, today it cost me £5 to fish the pier and to get my £100 worth I need to fish 20 night tides and coming from Dagenham would not be cost affective, I like most like to tavel around different venues and meet new friends, and at this price would mean to me just fishing Clacton.
this may sound like I am being a skinflint but at this present time not everyone can just pay out £100 to fish on top of bait, petrol, parking, and entry fee to the pier. thanks for your time everyone

hi bearskin, there been talk of a nite ticket for clacton for the last 2 years bryan dean was sorting it out with the pier, wot you for got to say is that the nite ticket only covers a nite trip if you wanted to fish though the day as swell you had to go and by a day ticket which is another 5pound, which i think is taking the mick as you had already payed 100pound for the season ticket. was it andy who you was talking to? he the big tall fat guy... me i would pay 100pound for a nite ticket because i think there wouldnt been many people willing to spend 100pound when you got walton up the road which only cost 60pound for the season ticket and that 24hrs. so i think it may been worth paying a 100 for a ticket because you would had the pier more or less to yourself

westy make you right you would have it all to yourself for the night and possibly a few more locals but how long do you think the owners would put up with just a few bryan dean may have tryed for a couple of years to get it up and running but when it comes to paying the £100 to night fish lets see how many put their hand in the pocket. and the guy who told us was about 5' 9 and late 20's early 30's and listerned to all sides when he told us. you live local to clacton what about the others in essex who have to travel, it would not be to bad to pay £100 and have no more to pay day or night and use the pier parking at night free of charge but like most companies you have to try and recoup some of the out lay no matter what some suggest or ask. so it looks like it will be the B.J or Orford for my night fishing because what you have not used you have not lost. whew!

Hi bearskin, i hear what you are saying and totally agree with you, whilst £100 is not a kings ransom by todays standard ,what do you get for it ? exclusivity, (no day trippers getting in your way with their kids) bait, tea , shelter, washing up facilitys, ???? not like a chartered boat is it .
i personaly haven't fished clacton pier but have a season ticket for walton pier which cost £60, okay its for 18 mths but again what do i get for it except to fish ! and at night it,s as dark as newgates knocker no lighting at all, if the price went up again say to £100 it would sort of make it the only venue to go to to justify the price as i too travel in from east london

if it was me running the pier and wished to draw fisherman in i would do it like dover charge a membership fee and charge to fish the night at a discounted rate say £5 nights £2 day and if not a member £10 night £5 day (present price for day fish) you may get a few more to use it and run a comptetion for members only twice a year which gives you the incentive to join the peir. when I was on Saturday in total for a midday tide 11 fisherman were fishing, and 3 of them were on holiday.
i am sure if the owners spoke to Bryan Dean and looked at sites like this they might get abetter insight on how to draw anglers to the pier.
thats me of my soapbox and good luck to the new owners.

whew! big grin big grin big grin big grin big hug

Bearskin,

Apologies if the bait was not up to standard saturday, we always try and give the best we can, and if the worms are small, you can always find you have extra worms in your packet, which works out as a loss to us.

Next time you are in please mention that you had small bait last time, and we will try our best to make sure you get the best we can on that day, at the end of the day we are in the hands of the baitdiggers, we cannot control what comes in through the door, due to conditions, spawning, weather and all the rest of it.

As for clacton pier, we have already had a couple meetings with the new management, and hope to be selling the new season tickets later on this week. It will be £100 and this will cover 24 hours a day fishing. We are waiting to post the news on all forums untill all the details are finalised, but as for now fingers crossed it will happen this time.

thanks for the info on the pier dean. also thanks for taking some time to offer an explanation on the bait. its all to easy for us just walking in the shops......cant be easy for you guys! i assume it is better to have small worms than dead worms......thats when its hard to swallow. i find it best wherever possible to use the same bait supplier as regular as i can, then you build up a relationship and get a decent service. my main supplier has never failed me!! someone on here once said to me a good dealer will always open the packet for your approval. if you then accept duff worms without complaint, you can only blame yourself i suppose. whew!
