Hi. I will be fishing from from the wall at Essex Marina this weekend. Anyone fished there lately? Anyone got any tips?

Watch out for the weed. It seems to be really thick at the moment and it will snag your gear. Had a couple of good bites there recently but lost both when line snapped. There are a lot of old concrete anchor bloks on the bottom and if your line gets round them you've lost it. Watch out for the boats-no matter how much room they have they will almost always want to sail over the bit that you are fishing. Look for the seagulls at dawn or dusk and you will find school bass. They have been catching them on feathers. For consitant bites rag and lug cocktails seem to be best.

Channel runs at about 5 metres deep for most of the lenght. If you fancy a long walk (about 3 miles) go east towards the mouth and at the point where the Roach joins the Crouch there is a hole about 10 metres deep if you cast long in anorth easterly direction.

Having said that, I've been down there 8 or 9 times since Christmas and caught b****r all!

its very rough down there mate, on every cast you will lose your gear, best to use old rigs, and bolts or spark plugs for weights,i just tie the bolt or spark plug on with 12 pound line at the end of the trace, and when you get snaged, the line snaps at the end and you at least get the rig back, and drop the bolt at the bottom then you dont get snagad,,

good luck tight lines,,
