hi im looking at buying a cheap lightweight spinning rod to take camping with me in the summer (around 7-8ft). ive been looking at a 7ft Masterline John Wilson Mirage, a Ron Thompson 7ft Zensorflex and an 8ft Stiffi Spin 180.
has anybody used any of these rods and if so are they any good for some light spinning from the rocks? or can you recommend any others for me to consider?
any advice welcome confused
cheers phatboy

im just looking for something cheap but up to the job at the moment as im only just getting into it and i dont want to spend too much on a rod yet.

should i be looking for a flexible rod or should i go for something a little stiffer?

this is my reccomendation,

http://www.tackleuk.co.uk/shakespeare-odyssey-hybrid-spin-90ft-p-4070.html

absolutely brilliant little rod, and you get the benefit of a full handle which aids casting, its really powerful rod for a spinning rod, ive used mine on a pedallo for bream, at arnside catching flounders, and caught a few wrasse with it, quality rod for price!

good luck! big grin

HI,

Get yourself one of these.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Lineaeffe-Carbon-telescopic-rod-3-0m-spin-float-rod_W0QQitemZ250362469280QQihZ015QQcategoryZ1495QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262

I tried mine last weekend and was gob smacked at how nice it handles. Best £8 I've spent for a while.

each to their own but id rather burn my money than buy another telescopic rod , ive had a few over the year ( allways bought 1 when on holiday somewhere ) and every 1 snapped , broke or busted , if you want a decent rod i'd look at the *proper* travel rods that come in short sections

I'm sorry to here that you've had a bad run with telescopic rods, but the original poster of this thread wants a cheap lightweight rod for camping. I'd hardly call a proper sectioned travel rod 'cheap', or light weight. They also take up far more space than a telescopic rod.
Also 7 or 8 foot rods arent best suited to fishing off rocks. Longer rods are better for keeping the fish out of snags which is why I went for that particular rod. After testing it out the other day I can say I'm impressed as it can chuck a 20/28gm lure over 50 yards, and has the back done to pull the lure up out of weeds/snags. As I havent connected to a fish yet I cant judge how it handles under pressure, but first impressions are looking good.

My boy has a shorter (8 foot) fibre glass telescopic rod purely so he can handle it better.
