Hi Lads
I have just been reading up about fishing in the mediterranian, the fish expected and the baits to use. I noticed that most fish are caught on worms, fish, squid, prawns and corn flour. Does anyone know how the hell you tie corn flour on to your line????????? Only joking, but how do you use it? |

Hi,
As a teenager and a younger man i went on many happy holidays to the med. If my memory serves i use to see local fishermen using a paste which the occasional one who could speak English said was "Flour". Sorry but iam not sure how they got it to a paste but iam sure if you take some with you they can probably show you how, seem to remember it being a light yellow colour!
Tight lines.

Cheers for that KG. I think I will probably buy it when on holiday as our lass won't be too happy about me taking white powder on the plane. Customs won't know what it is until they burst open my bag in front of an airport full of people. I'll ask the locals as apparently limassol is quite a big fishing place. Let you know how I get on.

When I was in Crete a few years ago I decided to take my sea gear and try a bit of fishing. I was new to sea fishing anyway. The trip only produced little colored fish on a course float and a bit of prawn Speaking to some locals they use huge lumps of bread with the hook in the middle. I think local advice is the best. Fishing can be very different from place to place. |

Hi there Mog.
I know Cyprus very well indeed, having been there during my RAF days, and having been back many many times since, the last time just last December, (when the temperature was a pleasant 21C every day) . Limassol is a nice town and I'm certain you'll have a great holiday there, but I hope you won't be disappointed with the fishing. Shore fishing around Cyprus is generally poor, and outside the Tuna season boat fishing can be a bit patchy as well. I've got loads of info on Cyprus in general and Limassol in particular, and I'll happily share it with you if you want to drop me an e-mail. Otherwise when you get there contact either Denis or Andros who operate the boat Christina out of Paphos, (Denis is a Scotsman), on telephone 998-13874. It's a good boat and Andros is a good skipper with pretty good English.
Have a good holiday.
Cheers............. |

I can 2nd that. My inlaws live in Cyprus, and I snorkel around Paphos quite a bit. Might see a mullet now and again, and small striped Bass, not much else at all.
The locals fish for mullet in the harbour, but they are small. |
