Well done mate that is a nice plump flounder.

I bet it made the rod tip rattle like a good 'un.

If it helps - dabs have rough skin (if you feel from tail to head), flounder are 'diamond' shaped and plaice are 'oval' shaped.

Also, I find that flounder don't put up much of a fight until they're in real trouble and then they really go for it! Plaice on the other hand fight from the off.

Some things I wished I'd learned many years ago after throwing four or five decent sized plaice back from Victoria Wharf in Leigh (because they could only be flounder from there, especially in February, even if they did have orange spots!). Then I caught a flounder and realised my mistake!

I've been led to believe that the plaice spawn on some sand banks off of Canvey or somewhere in that region and I've seen a few caught early in the year during my time sea fishing.

It's probably a short lived run a bit like the roker in the Crouch although the plaice do come back in summer (not that I've caught anything other than palm sized things in the summer and then only from the pier - but that's just me).

As for turbot and brill I can't help but if I caught one off the beach in the Thames I wouldn't care which it was winking

That luck of yours Lee had better stop by the 29yth ha ha,

Otherwise I will have to kidnap you off the Jolly Rodger "Pirate Ship" and hold you to ransom to fish for Boat 2 the winning boat.

devil devil devil

Good report mate..
