Hi its me again
Im not 100% on all these ratio numbers with reels. Not sure what is best or not coz it all is a bunch of numbers to me. (example 4.6:1) with that many combinations on the market what makes a better reel. Anyone who understands please help.

Hi Frazzle,
Ratios work like this; One number represents the main drive wheel(the reel handle if you like) the other represents the final drive (in this case the spool). If your ratio is 4.6:1, then one turn of the main drive = 4.6 rotations of the spool. The further a ratio is from 1:1, the less work you have to do to reel in a quantity of line.
eg:
If a spool has a circumference of say, 4 inches and the reel ratio is 4:1, then for each turn of the handle, you will reel in 16 inches of line.
If the same spool is on a reel with a ratio of 6:1, then for each turn of the handle you will reel in 24 inches of line.
Hope that helps. |
