Hi, Im looking to buy a multiplier reel, however there are so many online and in tackle shops that I cant decide on which one is best. Does anyone know a good all round reel that has mag or block brakes, level wind and does not break the bank.
Cheers |

Hi Frazzle,
I wouldn't look at anything under £50. I wanted one and bought an ABU 6500 Ambassadeur. They were retailing at about £120 at the time but I found a deal for £70. It's not bad for the money but does not have mag brakes. The centrifugal brakes seem to work fine though. Have a look on line and I'm sure you'll get a good one for reasonable money. All the cheap ones I looked at looked as if they'd fall to pieces first cast. |

Me if i was only able to afford one reel i would buy a pen 525 super mag or 535 mag as these are good on most types of beaches from rocks to sand and has big gears on the handle so less likely to sheer the gears when fishing over weed etc(the 535 might even do some light boat work)
If you only fish clean beaches then an abu 6500 size reel like the mag or rocket would do the job
I have a 525 super mag for when i fish off rocks in devon and 2 abu 6500 rockets for when i fish off the beach buy my house in kent and all the reels are still like new(always rinse them off under the tap after each use and dry with a towel to stop corrosion etc)
Tight lines dan
