Reading Seasurfer’s remarks on night time sea fishing and the use of Glow sticks to light up the end of your rod,( incidentally I think that tip deserves 10 out of 10 ) I was thinking of going one step further to the extent of searching the internet and finding http://www.glowingmad.com/miniglowsticks.asp . These glow sticks are 1.5” in length, how long they last for is anyone’s guess. So in for a penny and in for a pound I’ve ordered a pack of 50. When they eventually arrive I intend to attach one to the rod tip as Seasurfer suggests and attach one or two to the rig. Whether or not this will help in seeing the weight hit the water at night remains to be seen. Also we have probably all noticed adverts stating the forgotten secretes of sea fishing. Well the secrete is lights hung below small fishing boats, these lights attract small fish and in theory bigger fish come in to feed, hence more big fish are caught. So if I attach a couple of mini glow sticks to the rig it may help seeing the weight hit the water and may attract fish to the bait. Of course it's not often I'm right and I could be wrong again, it’s worth a try.
Has anyone out there tried this method? |

Glow beads and flashing lures are used to atract fish, so I see no reason as to why your idea wouldn't work.
Go for it and post the results, would be interested to see the results.

i got 100 or the 1.5 glowsticks from ebay and they are still glowing after 6hrs i tape two together on a rod it helps you to see it more clearly and as they cost only a few pence each instead of 2 for a pound from the shops
if the shops complain that they use customers to ebay then they should look at thier hugely inflated prices
i used to work in a tackle shop years ago and we gave club members 25% discount and still made a profit
SO WAKE UP TACKLE DEALERS
i will stick to ebay
cheers steve |

I've been using Glow Bugs just above the hook (like a bait stop) on some rigs for a while now. Not sure if they have increased my total catch rate, but I've definitely had more foul hooked fish on the rigs where I use them - usually hooked close to the mouth/head but hooked from the outside.
I think this can be explained by the fish biting the glow bug (above the hook) rather than the bait itself.
If you attach the glowsticks to your weight I think fish could attack the weight rather than your hook, so you might get false bites and/or the big 'uns will be missing your bait, distracted by the glow.
Anything's worth a try though, good luck !! |
