I'm back in the fishing fold...

Hi guys

well its been many a year since i picked up a rod though glad i have. This is the story, i work with people with learning disabilities and autism. Away with a service user last year we took them coarse fishing and they loved it.
So much that on the return trip home we bought them a rob reel and kit etc. From then i was enamered to take him out once a week for a session. SAnother of the guys wanted to join in and since then 6 mnths have past and we have been out at leats weekly if ot more.
The guys have been accepted by all people that we have met whilst fishing. eve offered assistance from feelow fishers at times of tackle tangles etc.
form then on its been fun fun fun.
Saying that all we have coaught so far is ballen wrasse that loads of them.

Next action settig up the fishing group through work and also setting up the website for disability, and promoting fishing and other therapies, so all of this has come through fishing i a round about way.

Hi Mrix i have just looked through your autism forum, h vaeig been in the filed for 13 years in total i hope to be able to helps others.
Just cotinuing work on the online magazine for learing dis and ASD.
Maybe we could work together for the same end some time..

Like you I work with people with learning difficulties.

Have just taken up fishing myself.

If you have any advice/information on fishing for the begginners/disabled i.e safety and the types of places to start please let me know as I think I have a few service users who would really enjoy it.

glad to hear that im not the only lunatic out there. Well what can i say with safety always do the risk assessment and fish your self first check the tides and weather before each trip.
With areas i have found that the piers are good marks for my guys as easy access.
Also any place that has access and you know there are an abundance of fish around for instance rock marks and near walls for pollock and wrasse.
Since the guys caught the first wrasse they have been well and truly hooked on fishing.
