Offering advice to someone you see making complete balls up casting isn’t always advisable, especially if it isn’t asked for and he is as happy as a sand eel with a 30yrd overhead bang in the general direction of the sea. Being ever so helpful I decided to show this old boy how to cast safely off the ground and guaranteed him at least another 30yrds extra. He offered me his rod and I explained to him where to position the lead, how to take up the slack line; point the rod tip about two to three inches off the ground, position of elbow and hand as if to throw a javelin. Now all you have to do is turn your body nice and easy, pull elbow into chest, thrust outward with other arm and watch the lead travel distances you’ve only dreamed of. I handed back the rod and expected to see poetry in motion, what I got was the biggest @%*$ up I’ve ever seen and a mother of all bird nests. Needles to say the chap were none too happy; he packed up his gear and went home. I turned to my mate who I was fishing with and said ‘What a nice old boy saying thank you when he left.
He replied all nonchalant like …. You heard him wrong, he said @%*$ you!
Lesson learnt, never offer advice to one who doesn’t ask for it!
(Anyone who wishes to improve his or her casting ability I can strongly recommend John Holden ‘Long distance casting’ DVD. Study this disc and with practice you will have the knowledge and skill to cast well). |

Never mind m8y, at least your intentions were honourable, if not appreciated, I've had the privelidge to teach a lot of people over the years, and some have learnt to cast faster than others, put it down to his bad timing and dont take it to heart, the next person might appreciate it a lot more. |

Well you had kind intentions Sodoffski and that really matters in today's world in my view. Unfortunately there are some folk who just don't a have much "hand/eye" co-ordination and you found one. |
