Helo Jason, First remove the old eye and the whipping with a stanley blade,
then lightly sand the area with a fine grit sand paper. you will need to get the same type of ring and the same colour whipping thread.
once the new ring is whipped on, use a sealer on the thread or it will change shade. When you put the high build on, do it in 2 coats the first should be very thin, allow it to dry fully then add the second coat. (keep the rod flay and turn it regularly to stop unsightly bulges in the varnish, I use two tripods and suspend the rods from them).
Hope this helps.

Helo jason, I didnt put that in because it depends on which type you use, Seymo do one that dries within 3 hours, but it can be a pain in the backside with air bubbles. The one I prefer is made by Gudebrod, but this takes a day to dry, and this means turning it every 5-10 minutes for 4 or 5 hours to get a good finish. It gives a good finish but you need to use a sealer on any whipping thread other than black.
Carl.
