Hiya guys
Cant really get my head round this braid. What is it? When should you use it? Why use it? and where should you use it? Does it sell at the same poundage as mono? (Is that a real word??? poundage)
It seems a bit like the offside rule, everybody kinda understands it, has an opinion on it, but only gives a muttering of explanation when I look it up. Leaves everything a bit grey?
The only bit of info I've really picked up (rabbi) is that it may not be great to use with a multiplier. Apart from that I dont understand the pros / cons.
Any help gratefully received
Cheers guys

First of all braid is a lot thinner than mono with little or no stretch thereby giving better bite indication.
Due to it being thinner than mono you can use less weight than you would with mono as it creates less resistance to the tidedal pull.
On a multipler it does tend to dig itself under the line that is already on the reel.
On the down side its not cheap. Cheers keith |

So, is that a yae or nae
I take it you would recommend that IF i tried it out I should do so on a FS first? What sort of poundage. Do you buy it as a mono pound strain or is it called something different (average fishing strain) |

Buy it as you would buy mono but go for a good braid like ron rhompson cable braid of about 50lb and dont use shockleader but expect to pay about £40 for 300meter spool. keith |

Yep I know, I tried to purchase it in bulk in a 2,000 meter spool but the largest is 300 meter that they do so I ended up buying 7 spools at £280. Made my eyes water as well lol. Cheers keith |

£40 a 300m reel Ouch !
Think it must have come down in price a bit since. You can get it for just over half of that now on ebay. Less than that via the channel isles and cheaper still from the states.
20 lb test = 0.06 mm diameter.
I'm not sure I could even see that end on . |

the biggest problem i have with braid is its very unforgiving when you are fishing with it.. It also is very good at wrapping around the tip of the rod in the dark of the night.Ive snapped a couple of tips off thereby ruining the rod. I find i have to be more on my game when fishing braid as compared to mono. the upside? its very rugged, super strong, has ten times the reel spool life of mono, casts a country mile and has super bite detection |

hi dappers
i, like you was curious about braid. i bought a 200m spool of penn dynabraid for £20.
i went out yesterday and with my first cast i was amazed. i thought something had gone wrong because i couldn't feel it leaving the spool. it was perfect.
when handling my rod and reel you can almost feel the sea bed through your line and lead.
i use mono on 1 reel and braid on the other and will continue to do so for a little while to compare them over different ground.
the advice from these guys is second to none. but you can't beat trying stuff for yourself!!
tight lines

Thanks Phil
Was that on a fixed spool or multiplier you tried it on? |

fixed spool.
i haven't tried a multiplier yet. have you?
if so how easy is it to learn to use?
i guess i'll have to take the plunge and buy one to try.

Be advised lads dont try it on a multiplier as you will run into all sorts of problems.
Its like running a car on parrafin and then saying the cars a load of crap. lol |

Thanks rabbi
Thats the 2nd best bit of advice I've had on here.
Now I know whats wrong with my car !!!??? Its that damn paraffin I've been putting in! Doh
The BEST one was how to kill your grass off with rod and reel cleaner.
On the multiplier front Phil. I bought one about 4 months ago and its fantastic (9 TIMES OUT OF 10). But the tenth cast is the one where I have to pack up my multi and rod cos of the massive irretrievable birds nest its (I've) created. If you buy one be prepared to have loads of back up line and practice, practice, practice.
Also found now that I've got 2 multi's that the slightly cheaper and less technical one is easier to control. Maybe I was trying to run before I could walk??
Rabbi, thanks again. Wont be using braid on it now, just trying to look for an alternative that might help me out on that tenth cast.

Phil
think you need to start a new post on that one.
Wouldnt want to give advice one way or the other on that one. Not experienced enough to give opinions on which, whys and wheres etc.
You'll get a good response from experienced guys if you post and word it correctly (I know I have)
