At least you caught some thing, I went fishing today and caught carp 8O .
I took my 3 and half year old son over the lakes with my pole and he managed to send the fish into orbit  he watched the float it went under and i said lift so he did and the little carp got cattle polted out the water
He didn't do to bad and managed to catch a common around the 3-4lb mark before he fell in the lake (i couldn't stop laughing at him after that) and we had to come home

The boat caught record is 59 lb 8 oz, caught off Bridlington in 1989. Your mates fish is a very good specimen weight and would probably win him a fair bit of tackle for Fish of the month from the angling magazines, if he has pics etc!
