I am well into my 50's and my father (bless him) wants me to take him fishing. Lives at Ramsgate which is where he started me fishing 45 years ago but hot spots might just have changed since then! Any suggestions as to good spots please. May not be many more seasons/ opportunities to take him I'm afraid but he can still get around well. Any help much appreciated. |

Hi mate
I live in ramsgate and regularily fish the harbour wall
There are codling up to 5lb being pulled out at the mo plus lots of big doggies, large pouting and 1lb + whiting.
They are coming thick and fast i myself avarage approx 10-15 fish a trip as does the friend i fish with.
Best bait is lug and squid cocktail but squid on its own does well.
Use a 2-3 hook flapper and you will be pulling in the whiting or a pennaled pulley/pulley size 3-4 hooks for the cod and doggie.
Best spot seems to be the first corner(in my experience anyway)
You can drive on the wall with no fear of being clamped.
Hope this helps.

many thanks - nice to know the bay and pier are still pulling them in. Any views on the old Marina/Nero's (or whatever it is called now) up the east end/ |

I fished a bit further along from the old marina last week. Had 1 codling of bout 1 1/2 lb pout and whiting. The fish started biting a bit more 1/2 hour after high. A bit slow going. The low-water marks moses and coburn throwing up a few fish. If you want to catch loads of fish try the pier, although I haven't fished it this winter it can get a bit busy for my liking and you can catch just as much off the beach. |

I have only fished them twice(last night and tonight funnily enough!)
had a couple of doggies last night and 1 tiny whiting tonight but there were others who were pulling out codling like no tomorrow!!
